ANACEC

ANACEC (National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and Research) is the national authority responsible for external evaluation and accreditation of education institutions and study programmes. It operates within the national quality assurance framework and evaluates institutions at different levels of education.

Bacalaureat

Bacalaureat is the national examination taken at the end of upper secondary - lyceum education (liceu). Successful completion of the examination leads to the Baccalaureate diploma, which provides access to higher education (see Higher education cycles).

Bachelor’s studies (studii de licență) 

Bachelor’s studies in the Republic of Moldova represent the first cycle of higher education, organised according to the Bologna Process. They typically last 180–240 ECTS credits (3–4 years) and lead to the award of a Bachelor’s degree (diplomă de licență), providing graduates access to the second cycle (Master’s studies).

Centre of Excellence (centru de excelență)

Centre of Excellence is a vocational education institution providing programmes within vocational education and training at secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary levels. They contribute to capacity building within the vocational education system.

Class tutor (diriginte) 

The class tutor (diriginte) is responsible for coordinating the educational activities and guidance of a specific class of pupils in general education. The class tutor also maintains communication between the school and parents and supports pupils’ personal development.

College (colegiu)

A college (colegiu) is an institution providing post-secondary non-tertiary education within the vocational education and training system. Colleges provide specialised vocational training and may allow graduates to continue studies in higher education.

Crèche (creșă)

Crèche (creșă) is an early childhood education and care institution providing services for children from infancy to approximately three years of age. 

Curriculum framework (Plan-cadru)

The curriculum framework (Plan-cadru) is the official document defining the structure of the curriculum in general education, including the list of subjects and the number of teaching hours allocated to them (see National Curriculum).

Didactic degree (grad didactic)

A didactic degree (grad didactic) is a professional qualification level awarded to teachers based on teaching experience, professional training and performance evaluation. Didactic degrees have several levels and are part of teachers’ career development.

Education Code of the Republic of Moldova (Codul educației al Republicii Moldova)

The Education Code of the Republic of Moldova is the main legislative act regulating the national education system. It establishes the structure, governance and principles of education policy in the country.

General education (învățământ general)

General education (învățământ general) includes primary education, gymnasium education, and lyceum education. It provides pupils with general competences and knowledge necessary for further education.

Gymnasium (gimnaziu)

A gymnasium (gimnaziu) provides lower secondary education, corresponding to ISCED level 2. It follows primary education and precedes lyceum education.

Higher education cycles (Ciclurile învățământului superior)

Higher education in the Republic of Moldova follows the three-cycle structure introduced through the Bologna Process:

  • Cycle I – Bachelor’s studies (Studii de licență)

  • Cycle II – Master’s studies (Studii de master)

  • Cycle III – Doctoral studies (Studii de doctorat)

Programmes are organised using the ECTS system.

Kindergarten (grădiniță)

Kindergarten (grădiniță) is a preschool education institution providing care and education for children usually between the ages of three and six or seven. It forms part of early childhood education.

Local specialised body in education (organ local de specialitate în domeniul învățământului - OLSDÎ)

A local specialised body in education is a public authority at district or municipal level, and UTA Gagauzia, responsible for managing education institutions and implementing national education policies locally.

Lyceum (liceu)

A lyceum (liceu) is an institution providing upper secondary general education, corresponding to ISCED level 3. 

National Qualifications Framework - NQF (Cadrul Național al Calificărilor - CNC)

The National Qualifications Framework (NQF) classifies qualifications according to levels of learning outcomes and competences. It is aligned with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

Professional school (școală profesională)

A professional school (școală profesională) provides programmes in secondary vocational education and training aimed at preparing learners for specific occupations.

Psychopedagogical assistance service (serviciu de asistență psihopedagogică)

This service provides assessment and support for learners with learning difficulties or special educational needs, contributing to the implementation of inclusive education.

Republican Centre for Psychopedagogical Assistance (Centrul Republican de Asistență Psihopedagogică)

The Republican Centre for Psychopedagogical Assistance coordinates the national network of psychopedagogical assistance services supporting inclusive education.

Technical vocational education and training (Învățământul profesional tehnic)

Technical vocational education and training includes programmes at secondary, post-secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary levels. It is provided by professional schools, colleges, and centres of excellence.
