School heads' salaries and allowances

  • School heads’ remuneration is regulated by top-level authorities.
  • The minimum qualification requirements for school heads is ISCED 6. In addition, at primary and secondary levels they must have 5 years’ experience, completion of training and exam.
  • Salary progression of school heads depends on the years of service (0.5% yearly increment).
  • School heads are civil servants.

    Teachers' salaries and allowances

    • Teachers’ remuneration is regulated by top-level authorities.
    • The minimum qualification requirements for teachers is ISCED 6 at all education levels.
    • For each year in service the basic salary is incremented by 0.5%. The progression according to this criterion cannot exceed 20% through the years of service.
    • Teachers are civil servants.

      6.4 ORGANISATIONAL VARIATIONS AND ALTERNATIVE STRUCTURES

       

      Organizational variations and alternative structures in public secondary education exist in the general upper secondary education and vocational upper secondary education, as Sports Academy, bilingual programs and programs for International Baccalaureate (IB). At the same time the International schools exist, as a form of private upper secondary schools.

       

      Several laws and policy documents provide the basis for Validation of Non-formal and Informal Learning (VNFIL) in North Macedonia. These include the Law on National Qualification Framework (NQF), the Law on Adult Education, the Strategy on Education 2018-2025, the Strategy on Adult Education, the Strategy on Non-formal and Informal learning, and the “Roadmap for implementing a system for validation of non-formal and informal learning in the Republic of Macedonia” (MoES, EAC, 2016).

      Pursuant to Article 2 of the Law on Adult Education, the providers of adult education services are:

      a) adult education institution is a school, higher education institution, as well as specialized adult education institution;

      b) an adult education institution, a legal or natural person that has registered an adult education activity;

      Key features of the Education System

      The educational system in the Republic of North Macedonia reflects the needs of the society for educational, scientific and permanent role of the education and science for the economic, social, technological and cultural development of the society as a whole. Consequently, the Ministry of Education and Science facilitates the continuous development of the system of education, moral education and science in the Republic of North Macedonia.
