National information

Liechtenstein - Teachers' salaries and allowances

Teachers' salaries and allowances

  • Teachers’ remuneration is regulated by top-level authorities for all education levels.
  • The minimum qualification requirement for teachers at primary level is ISCED 6 and ISCED 7 at secondary level. In addition, at upper secondary level, 60 ECTS (higher teaching qualification) is required.
  • Salary progression of teachers is regulated by law. Only a small part of the salary increases with age and years of service (max 12% of minimum salary). The other part is performance based and index-related, which can go up to 30% but this depends on parliamentary decision on overall state budget.
  • Teachers are civil servants.
