FEES

• In the second cycle, fees must be fixed within the limits indicated when the second cycle, in conjunction with the first cycle, is necessary for professional exercise. Fees regarding other second cycles are freely fixed by the Higher Education Institutions (HEI).  

• Full time home students pay fees at all three cycles at a minimum of EUR 495 and a maximum of EUR 697, with students most commonly paying EUR 697.

• Part-time students pay fees that are proportionate and in accordance with the specific regulation of each higher education institution.

• International students pay a minimum fee at all three cycles at EUR 495 however there is no maximum fee. International students pay higher fees compared to home students.

INDIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT

• Tax benefits for students’ parents is available at all three cycles.
• Tax benefits for students with an income is not available
• Family allowances for students’ parents is available at all three cycles. Students must be under the age limit of 24 years old.

DIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT - GRANTS

• Needs based and merit based grants are available to full and part-time home students.

• Need based grants are awarded for 10 months whereas merit based grants are awarded all at once.

• Full time students receive a grant which corresponds to a minimum of 125% of the tuition fee. The minimum needs based grant is EUR 872 and the maximum is EUR 5524, in accordance to the tuition fee. As for merit based grants, students receive EUR 3325.

• Part-time students must be enrolled in the entire academic year to be eligible for a merit based grant. Part time students also receive grants which correspond to a minimum of 125% of the tuition fee. Students receive a minimum needs based grant of EUR 872 and a maximum of EUR 3111. If eligible to receive a merit based grant, students receive EUR 3325.

• International students are only eligible to apply for grants if in humanitarian emergency situations. The minimum amount available for need-based grant is EUR 872 and the maximum EUR 5524. The amount available for merit-based grant is EUR 3325.

• In the first cycle, 21,0% of full time students were need-based grant beneficiaries, 17,0% of student were beneficiaries in the second cycle and 22,0% in the short cycle. Merit-based grants are awarded in the ratio of 1 for every 500 students enrolled in a HEI (with a minimum of 1 per HEI). Since they are awarded according to criteria set by the HEI, it is not possible to determine the distribution by cycle.

• There is no age limit for students to access public grants.

DIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT - LOANS

• Publicly-subsidised loans are available to home students. Students must be a minimum of 18 years old to take a loan but there is no maximum age limits.

• Students receive a minimum loan of EUR 1000 and a maximum loan of EUR 5000 at all three cycles.

• A protocol for loans recovery was signed by late October 2018, with implementation starting in January 2019, between a mutual guarantee society, the Ministry for Science, Technology and Higher Education and Human Capital Operational Program (PO CH) (European Social Fund).
