OVERVIEW

In Bosnia and Herzegovina all students are required to pay fees.
There is fee differentiation depending on the education cycle, the field of study (specific discipline) and programme (taught in foreign language, studying for a second degree etc.).
Waivers and reductions are available and are subject socio-economic criteria. Students with extended length of study and subject to socio-economic constraint are eligible as well.
Direct financial support is provided by need-based, merit-based and universal grants. Loans are not available.

FEES

The government exempts a certain number of full-time students from paying tuition, but they have to pay administrative costs. There is no student category exempted from payment of administrative fees.
Full-time students from families of two or more students studying in the first cycle of studies up to the age of 26 pay 50% of the amount of the established tuition fee, i.e. pay 50% of the amount determined.
Part-time students, students with extended length of study, students studying in specific discipline and in foreign language programmes as well as international students pay higher fees.
There are no students on non-state subsidised places.
Maximum - insufficient number of points/extended duration of study - the total amount of compensation is obtained by dividing 50% of the tuition fee by the number of exams in the study year that the student is renewing and multiplying by the number of failed exams.
The share of students paying fees above EUR 100 is 100% in all cycles. The most common fee is paid by 70% (first cycle), 80% (second cycle) and 90% (short cycle) of the students.

Grants are most commonly administered on a 10 months basis.
The age limit for access to public grants is 35 years.
