OVERVIEW

  • In Iceland all students in all education cycles pay fees.

  • Differentiation fee policies informed by the field of study or the programme is not applied.

  • Waivers or reductions are available and subject to criteria related to the socio-economic status of the students. 

  • Direct financial support is available through loans. Grants are not available.

  • Indirect financial support to students' parents is provided in the form of family allowances. For those taking student loans, a special grant is provided for each child (459000 ISK per year). There is no limit depending on the number of children. There is no age limit applied.

DIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT - LOANS

  • Loans are provided subject to the following criteria:

    - Icelandic citizenship
    - Citizens or family members from EEA or EFTA member country, with permanent residence and employed or self-employed in Iceland. It is required that the person works a minimum of 40 hours per month while studying. 
    - Foreign citizens married to or in a registered partnership with an Icelandic citizen for about two years and has with legal residence in Iceland for at least two out of the last five years before studies begin.
    - Refugees
    - Persons with permanent residence permit
