Teachers’ remuneration is regulated by collective agreement for all education levels.

The minimum qualification requirement for teachers at pre-primary level is ISCED 4 with 30 ECTS (or 120 ECTS at EQF 4). However, most teachers have a higher qualification: ISCED 5 with 60 ECTS at EQF 5. Teachers in primary and secondary education must have a bachelor’s degree (ISECD 6) with specialisation in education.

Salary progression of teachers is subject to performance evaluation.

Teachers have civil servant status.
