State schools are grouped in ten Colleges. Schools are managed by a Head of School who is assisted by a number of Assistant Heads and Heads of Department. Other Education Staff working in Schools who are non-teaching staff include, counsellors, Educational psychologists, social workers and Heads of Department and College Prefects of Discipline. The Educational Psycho-Social services, under the remit of the National School Support Services (NSSS), provides the academic/career guidance and psychological support services. Education Officers (EOs) are responsible for the monitoring of the quality of Education in compulsory education.

 

Higher Education Institutes such as The University of Malta, Malta College of Arts Science & Technology and The Institute of Tourism Studies are governed by a governing body. The Institute for Education, which was established in 2015, is operated by the Chief Executive Officer who is assisted by an Advisory Board appointed by the Hon. Minister for Education and Employment.

 

Adult Education is provided by the Directorate for Research, Lifelong Learning and Employability within the Ministry for Education and Employment. The Directorate is managed by a Director who is assisted by an Assistant Director and an Education Officer. Administrative support is provided by executive/administrative officers.
