Pupils/Students Assessment
At MCAST and ITS, assessment is implemented per module according to clear assessment criteria. Such criteria guides academics when setting and grading assessment. Generally, academics employ a combination of continuous assessment through coursework and summative assessment through end-of-semester assessments. For each assessment set, students receive a mark and constructive feedback.
The total mark for each unit is calculated by summing up all the marks obtained in the respective assessments set for each module. At the end of each module, students are awarded a grade which reflects the total mark as per each institution’s grading system.
At MCAST, if a student fails to submit one of the assessments set, they may attempt the remaining assessments (for the respective unit). However, the maximum mark that may be achieved for the respective unit is 59% (Grade D). In cases where the overall minimum of 50 % is not achieved, the student is considered to have failed the unit. Students are eligible to sit for a synoptic assessment of a failed unit only once.
Both at MCAST and at ITS, students who fail their year have the option to repeat it.
