The organisation of the academic year in higher education – 2024/2025
Beginning of the academic year | According to the Higher Education Law no. 199 / July 5, 2023, with subsequent completions, the university year usually begins on the first working day of October; it includes two semesters and ends on 30 September in the next calendar year. |
Period(s) when there are teaching activities | The academic year consists of two semesters. Higher education institutions (HEI) are autonomous. They fix all periods of teaching activity, exams and holidays. The length of the teaching activity (lectures and practice trainings) differs from one HEI to another. Examinations dates and holidays (other than the officially announced public and religious holidays) are determined at institutional level. Length of intervals: 14 weeks (teaching) each semester. |

Teachers and students are free to fix the dates for examinations within the examination sessions established by institutions. Length of intervals: 3 weeks (examinations) each semester; re-sit exam session: 2 weeks in September. |
