The organisation of the academic year 2024/2025 in Ukraine is as follows:

Beginning of the academic year* August/September (Institutional autonomy)

Breaks between the teaching activities excluding the examination period, if significant There is usually one significant main break in the academic year, the winter break that lasts for 2-3 weeks in December/January (Institutional autonomy)

 

*The HEIs have institutional autonomy to set the date for the beginning of the academic year from the end of August to the beginning of September.

**The HEIs have the autonomy in deciding on their own individual academic calendar. They usually adopt academic calendar before the start of each academic year. First semester starts in September and ends in November/December. Second semester starts at the end of January/in February and ends at the end of May/beginning of June.

***The examination period lasts for about 4 weeks.
