The organisation of the academic year 2024 /2025 in Estonia is organised as follows:*

Beginning of the academic year Between the last week of August and the first week of September
Periods when there are teaching activities

September – December (Autumn semester)

February – June (Spring semester)

Periods of examination

January/February (Winter examination period)

May/June (Summer examination period)

End of the academic year Between the last week of June and the first week of July
Breaks between the teaching activities excluding the examination period

Christmas holidays between 20 December and 1 January

A week after the examination period in January

 

* The Higher Education Act only stipulates that the academic year consists of twelve months, ten of which are designated as study months. These study months are divided into two semesters. Higher education institutions are autonomous in determining the exact dates for periods of instruction and academic holidays.
