In Denmark, higher education institutions have the autonomy to organise their academic calendars within the framework of national legislation. While there is no uniform structure mandated across all institutions, common practices have emerged.

The organisation of the academic year 2024/2025 in Denmark is as follows. 

Beginning of the academic year The academic year usually begins during September. In Denmark, higher education institutions have the autonomy to organise their academic calendars within the framework of national legislation. 
Periods when there are teaching activities Teaching activity is usually organised from September to December and from February to May. All periods of teaching activity and holidays are fixed by institutions in internal regulations. 
Period(s) of examination Primarily in January and June. Periods of examination Examination periods are fixed by institutions in internal regulations.
End of the academic year Late June or August (for resits or summer courses). Higher education institutions have the autonomy to organise their academic calendars within the framework of national legislation. 
Breaks between the teaching activities excluding the examination period, if significant  Mid-October (Autumn break), late December to early January (Christmas break), one week around Easter, and July (summer break), although activities may vary by institution. All periods of teaching activity and holidays are fixed by institutions in internal regulations.
