The competent national bodies for adult education include the Council of Adult Education (CAE) and Adult Education Centre (AEC).

The Council for Adult Education is а 13 - member advisory body that proposes strategic policies and actions in the field of adult education. 

The Adult Education Center (AEC) is the key institution for the development of adult education system at national level. AEC is managed by a Director, who is required to meet the following criteria: (1) be a citizen of North Macedonia; (2) has completed higher education; (3) has at least 5 years of working experience; (4) has organisational abilities etc.

Adult education is carried out by a number of diverse accredited training providers. Accredited primary and secondary schools are governed by the Laws regulating their primary activities, i.e. primary and secondary education. Private providers are governed by the laws regulating companies.

As far as the Open Citizens Universities for Lifelong Learning are concerned, their management body is the Management Board, comprised of five members: two representatives of the staff, two members appointed by the founder and one representative of the Ministry of Education and Science. One of the members is appointed President of the Management Board.
