School heads ‘remuneration is regulated by top level authorities.
The minimum qualification requirement for school heads is ISCED 7 except at pre-primary level where ISCED 3 is required. In addition, school heads must have professional experience of 3 years (pre-primary), 4 years (primary and lower secondary) and 5 years (upper secondary), and leadership-management training.
Salary progression depends on years of experience.
School heads are school employees.

Teachers' salaries and allowances

Teachers’ remuneration is regulated by top level authorities.
The minimum qualification level required for teachers is ISCED 7 and a pedagogical qualification at all education levels except at pre-primary where the qualification requirement is ISCED 3 and additional certificate for pre-primary teacher training.
Teachers' salary progression is determined by the salary grades and length of professional experience. Advancement by gaining further qualification is not applied.
Teachers are included among education staff. They are employees of a legal entity which carries out activities of a school or school-facility. Education staff in public schools are employed on a contractual basis. The employment contract is concluded between the teaching candidate and the school and the applicants are recruited via open recruitment procedure.

All students pay administrative (registration) fees once per cycle.
The minimum fee is not regulated by law.
Maximum – standard performance /length of study" and Most common fees - the maximum admission fee is CZK 931. The most common admission fee amount per cycle (CZK 750) is an estimate - the admission fee per cycle ranges from approximately CZK 500 to 900 depending on the HEI.
Maximum – insufficient credits/extended length of studies - students of first or second cycle who exceed the regular length of study by more than one year have to pay fees. The top-level regulations only set the minimum fees for extended study (CZK 13 971 for academic year 2024). However, HEIs generally set significantly higher fees, which is within their autonomy; no maximum fee is set by law. The amount indicated (CZK 58 000) is an estimate of the most common fee for the extended length of studies that HEIs charge. In practice, fees for extended study depend strongly on the field of study, they range between approx. CZK 40 000 and CZK 100 000.
Students studying in foreign language programmes - the fees are not regulated by law, while HEIs have full autonomy in deciding on the specific amounts; there is no maximum limit. In practice, the fees depend strongly on the field of study. The amount indicated is an estimate of the most common fee that HEIs charge.
8.6% of all students paid fees for exceeding the regular length of study and nearly 4% of students paid fees for study programmes in a foreign language in 2023 (the percentages include first and second cycle students and international and home students).

DIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT - GRANTS

Need-based and merit-based grants are available to full-time home and incoming students in the first and second cycles. Need-based grants for international students are available only for students with long-term or permanent residence and asylum seekers.
Need-based grants - awarded for the period of 10 months in the respective academic year.
Merit-based grants - the award is not sanctioned by law. The HEIs have the autonomy to set their rules for award. Usually, it is paid retroactively per semester.
Additional support is available through support for accommodation expenses, awarded to students with different place of origin (on average CZK 5 400/year).
Data on shares combines home and international students.
The age limit to access grants is 26 years.
