The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova ensures the right to education through the following aspects:

The right to education is ensured through compulsory general education, through high school and professional education, through higher education, as well as through other forms of training and improvement.

The state ensures, under the law, the right to choose the language of education and training of individuals.

The study of the Romanian language is ensured in educational institutions of all levels.
-
State education is free.
-
Educational institutions, including non-state ones, are established and operate in accordance with the law.
-
Higher education institutions benefit from the right to autonomy.
-
High school, professional and higher state education is equally accessible to all, based on merit.
-
The state ensures, in accordance with the law, the freedom of religious education. State education is laic.
-
The primary right to choose the sphere of children's training belongs to the parents.
According to the Education Code of the Republic of Moldova, education is based on the following fundamental principles:

the principle of equity - on the basis of which access to learning is granted without discrimination;

the principle of quality - on the basis of which educational activities are related to national reference standards and to national and international good practices;

the principle of relevance - based on which education responds to the needs of personal and social-economic development;
-
the principle of centering education on its beneficiaries;
-
the principle of freedom of thought and independence from ideologies, religious dogmas and political doctrines;
-
the principle of respecting the pupil/student's right to opinion as a direct beneficiary of the education system;
-
the principle of social inclusion;
-
the principle of ensuring equality and non-discrimination;
-
the principle of recognising and guaranteeing the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, including the right to preserve, develop and express their ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity;

the principle of unity and integrity of the educational space;

the principle of managerial and financial efficiency;
-
the principle of decentralisation and institutional autonomy;
-
the principle of public responsibility - based on which educational institutions are publicly accountable for their performance;

the principle of transparency;
-
the principle of participation and responsibility of the community, parents and other interested social actors;

the principle of supporting and promoting education staff;
-
the principle of secular education;
-
the principle of nonviolence.
Education in the Republic of Moldova has the following mission:

satisfying the educational requirements of the individual and society;

the development of human potential to ensure the quality of life, the sustainable growth of the economy and the well-being of the people;

development of national culture;

promoting intercultural dialogue, the spirit of tolerance, non-discrimination and social inclusion;

promoting lifelong learning;

facilitating the reconciliation of professional life with family life for men and women;

developing civic spirit and promoting active citizenship.
