Last update: 26 March 2025

Pupil assessment

The current assessment of learning outcomes is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Education Code, the Regulation on the Organisation of Studies in Post-secondary and Post-secondary Non-tertiary Technical Education based on the Transferable Study Credit System, the Framework Plan for Secondary, Post-secondary and Post-secondary Non-tertiary Vocational Education, and of other normative acts.

The assessment component defines the types and methods of assessment of study objectives, expressed in key and professional competencies. The summative evaluation method is determined in accordance with the particularities of the course unit provided in the curriculum, the volume and duration of its study. Summative assessment tools can be: tests, oral/written/practical examinations, laboratory works, reports and projects, portfolios, concerts, exhibitions, sports trial, computer-assisted assessments.

Ongoing evaluation of learning outcomes is done with grades from "10" to "1" and, where applicable, with the qualifications "excellent", "very good", "good", "satisfactory", "unsatisfactory", "pass" and "fail".

In post-secondary vocational education and training, post-secondary non-tertiary vocational education and training and in higher education, in addition to the national grading system, the grading scale with qualifications recommended in the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) is also applied (A, B, C, D, E, FX, F) to complete the diploma supplement and facilitate academic mobility. Equivalence with the national grading scale is done as follows:

  • A: 9.01-10.0;

  • B: 8.01-9.0;

  • C: 7.01-8.0;

  • D: 6.01-7.0;

  • E: 5.0-6.0;

  • FX: 3.01-4.99;

  • F: 1.0-3.0.

When applying summative evaluations, teachers are responsible for developing evaluation tools: the specification matrix (for evaluations based on docimological tests), the content of the evaluation sample, the correction scale, the scheme for converting scores into grades.

The number of current grades/qualifications during a semester given to each pupil must be at least equal to the weekly number of direct contact course hours, but not less than 3. It is recommended to diversify the forms of formative assessment during the semester.

At the end of each semester, teachers have the obligation to conclude the school situation of the pupils. The semester average for the course unit is calculated to two decimals, by truncation, as the average of the current grades: direct contact hours (theoretical/lectures, practical/laboratory, etc.) and individual activity hours. The current semester average is taken into consideration in the final evaluation and have a weight of 60% of the final grade for the course unit. If the current semester average is lower than "5", the pupil is not admitted to the exam/thesis (for the field of medicine).

In the subjects of general culture, grading is carried out according to the provisions of the Regulation on learning outcomes, promotion, graduation and transfer of pupils in primary and secondary education.

Annual projects are scheduled within the corresponding course units. They are evaluated within the respective course unit and from the total number of credits belonging to it. For the verification of the annual projects, one hour is given to each pupil.

Course units, with the exception of internships, are completed by exams with grades, or by a thesis for the field of medicine.

The granting of study credits is carried out simultaneously with the obtaining of the passing final grade for the course unit and is recorded in the examination register and pupil's personal file.

The general average for the course unit will consist of: 60% of the semester average and 40% of the grade from the exam or semester thesis for the field of medicine.

At the end of each semester, the pupil's semester grade is calculated as the average of the grades obtained in all course units for the respective semester provided in the Education Plan.

The internships do not end with an exam. The grade for the internships is calculated in accordance with the curricular provisions. Study credits are awarded for a passing mark of 5.00 and above.

The qualifying exam is quantified separately with 5 study credits.

The pupils who have passed the qualification exam receive the Professional Studies Diploma with the qualification specified in the education plan.

Progression of pupils

The full achievement of the conditions stipulated in the Study Contract, established for one year of study, along with obtaining the expected number of study credits, constitutes the condition for the pupil's promotion to the following year and allows the pupil to continue their studies. The annual study contract between the pupil and the educational institution is the basic document, which gives the pupil the opportunity to accumulate study credits and is signed annually.

Pupils are promoted after the exam sessions.

Only pupils who have fully completed the requirements for the respective course unit and whose current semester average is not lower than "5" are admitted to the exam. Obtaining an insufficient grade in an exam or being absent at an exam is not grounds for prohibiting the pupil from taking the following exams, except in cases where the courses/modules established by the Curriculum as prerequisites for the evaluated course units were not passed.

Pupils graded below "5" or "rejected" in more than four subjects/course units are not admitted to the exam. Pupils assessed with grades below "5" or the qualification "rejected" in more than 4 subjects/course units are expelled.

The oral exam is held in front of a committee made up of at least two teaching staff: the teaching staff who taught the respective course and a teaching staff from the relevant department.

The examining teaching staff has the obligation to communicate the results of the written exams to the pupils. The pupil can take the exam in one day only at a single course unit, and the interval between successive exams must be 2 - 5 days.

Pupils enrolled in performance sports activities, festivals, international contests/olympiads, mobility programmes, maternity leave, can benefit from a special examination session.

Pupils can dispute the grade given by the teacher within 24 hours from the moment the results are announced. When taking the exam repeatedly, the pupil can request the formation of a three-person examination committee, which includes the teacher who taught the respective course.

A repeated exam can be taken a maximum of three times. Failure to appear at the exam without reason is considered the first attempt. If the pupil does not obtain passing marks and credits after the third presentation, he is expelled.

The credits awarded and the exam grades are recorded in the exam register and pupil's gradebook.

Pupils who do not obtain the credits necessary for the promotion to the following academic year (according to the annual study contract) and are re-enrolled in the same year must fulfil the requirements of the curriculum of the respective promotion.

The pupil who obtains full credits in all compulsory, optional and free-choice course units, provided in the study contract for each semester, can apply for a scholarship.

Pupils who have fully completed the Curriculum are admitted to take the qualification exam and/or the diploma thesis by order of the director, based on the decision of the Faculty Council.
