Apart from academic and management staff, higher education institutions in the Republic of Moldova also include other categories of non-teaching personnel:
1) research staff: research fellow, senior research fellow, coordinating research fellow, and principal research fellow;
2) administrative and technical staff, including administrative secretaries, technicians, engineering technicians, doctors, medical assistants, as well as auxiliary and service personnel.
All research posts in higher education institutions are filled on the basis of a fixed-term individual employment contract concluded following a competitive selection procedure. The regulation governing the procedure for filling these posts is approved by the Government.
Libraries within higher education institutions form an integral part of the education system and contribute to teaching, cultural and educational activities, research, and professional development. Through their specific resources and services, libraries support the institution’s teaching, learning, and research processes. Librarians in education institutions benefit from professional incentives and may obtain qualification grades in accordance with the legislation in force (Education Code).
Support for students’ career guidance and professional development is provided through counselling centres or services that may operate within higher education institutions. Career counselling centres assist students with career planning and with the transition to the labour market. Although there are not yet strict legal qualification requirements for support staff working in career counselling centres, practitioners are typically graduates in fields such as sociology, psychology, economics, or educational sciences (Guidance System in Moldova).
