In Albania, higher education follows a structure aligned with the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and the Bologna Process, which standardizes academic calendars across many European countries. The academic year typically spans from October to June, divided into two main semesters. Here’s a description of how the academic year is organised:

1. Start of the Academic Year:

• The academic year usually begins in October.

With regard to alternative structures for early childhood education and care only kindergartens (kopshte) and nurseries (çerdhe) provide this type of education. There are no other variations or alternative structures in Albania.

The law does not predict for any home based provision for this level of education.

Pre‑school in Albania is optional and consists of kindergarten and preparatory classes for children aged three to six. Kindergartens operate in age groups of 3‑4 year‑olds, 4‑5 year‑olds and 5‑6 year‑olds, while preparatory classes take place in basic education schools and target five‑year‑old children who may or may not have previously attended pre‑school.

It is defined in bilateral agreements, programmes and protocols on cooperation. MoES is responsible for operational implementation of bilateral scholarships in the field of higher education.
