6.2Teaching and learning in upper secondary education

Curricula

The curricula for all levels of general upper secondary education are drafted by the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Pre University Education and is approved  approved by the National Council on Pre-university education and the Minister of Education and Sports. Curricula are compound by core curricula and curricula of subjects by choice.

Besides curricula also teaching plans are drafted which change on yearly basis by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth. In general the new curricula and respective teaching plans  includes the following subjects Arts, physical education and sports, foreign language (s), Albanian language and literature, Career and Skills for life, Math, Technology and ICT, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. Teaching plans and number of subjects are revised on yearly basis by acts of Minister.

Specialization of students

Students attending the respective general higher education institutions are not specialized in anything and have a general formation. They can attend university or higher education studies in the country or abroad following the completion of respective studies.

Teaching methods and materials

In regard to teaching methods and materials some of those such as the use of computers or the project-based approach for certain subjects are imposed by the respective curricula. Furthermore, teachers might choose to use other more innovative methods in their classes.
