According to l. 4957/2022, each HEI may, by decision of the Senate, establish and operate a special study programme in pedagogical and teaching competence, the successful completion of which leads to the award of a certificate of pedagogical competence.The programme is of a minimum duration of 2 academic semesters, includes courses and other educational activities in the subject area of pedagogy and corresponds to at 60 credit units. 

Enrollment in this specific study programme is open to students of the Higher Education Institution who have already registered in first-cycle study programmes, the successful completion of which leads to the acquisition of qualifications for appointment in primary or secondary education or the right to exercise the specialty of teacher in post-secondary or vocational education. An eligible student must have been successfully evaluated in educational activities of their study programme and have accumulated at least 180 credit units.

In addition, graduates of first-cycle study programmes of HEIs, who possess the specific formal qualifications for appointment in primary or secondary education, or the right to practice the teaching profession in post-secondary or vocational education, in any teaching specialisation of primary, secondary, post-secondary, or vocational education.
