10.4Other education staff or staff working with schools

The personnel employed at schools also includes staff dealing with school needs not relating to teaching and providing students’ support when special problems are encountered. (law 1566/1985).

More specifically, at school, in addition to teachers, the following staff may be employed:

  • Administrative staff supporting the school’s teaching and administrative work, such as secretaries, accountants, technical staff or library staff
  • Specialised scientific staff meeting the students’ individual and social needs, such as psychologists, nurses, social workers
  • Auxiliary staff meeting other school needs, such as cleaning staff, school guards, maintenance technicians, messengers, janitors, canteen staff.

The said staff may consist of the Ministry of Education or Local Government permanent employees or staff under a fixed-term employment contract governed by private law covering seasonal, transient or temporary needs.
