9.Management and other education staff

Last update: 28 July 2025

The school and the school facilities are managed by managing pedagogical staff.

The scope of their rights and responsibilities is set out in the Education Act (Školský zákon), the Act on State Administration in Education and School Self-Government (Zákon o štátnej správe v školstve a školskej samospráve) and the Act on Pedagogical Employees and Professional Employees (Zákon o pedagogických zamestnancoch a odborných zamestnancoch).

Quality assurance of the educational process is ensured by the State School Inspection (Štátna školská inšpekcia) and by the school itself through self-evaluation processes.

There are also professional employees in schools and school facilities who provide counselling, diagnostic and therapeutic services directly in schools, counselling and prevention centres, or social assistance facilities.

The activities and competences of higher education institution managing staff are regulated by the Act on Higher Education (Zákon o vysokých školách).

Managing staff in adult education can be divided into three groups according to the type of institution in which they work, namely

  •  primary and secondary schools, primary art schools and language schools,
  • higher education institutions,
  • private further education institutions.

Depending on the type of institution in which they work, the relevant legislative provisions apply to the staff.
