Descriptions of learning outcomes define the learning goals of the students at vocational colleges in Norway. The learning outcome descriptions are formulated by the colleges themselves, but they must comply with the Norwegian qualifications framework for lifelong learning, which is set by the Ministry of Education. NOKUT (Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education) also plays an important role in evaluating and ensuring that the learning outcome descriptions meet national standards.

Teaching in higher vocational education is often practical and career-focused. The practical training can include laboratory work, workshop activities, and other practical exercises relevant to the specific field of study. Students often work on projects that simulate real work tasks. Vocational colleges often collaborate with companies and organizations to ensure that the education is relevant and up-to-date. This can include internships, guest lectures from industry experts and company visits.
