This section provides the most recent available data on the number of educational institutions from pre-primary to upper secondary education level (ISCED levels 0-3). Statistics on numbers and characteristics of higher education institutions can be found in the European Tertiary Education Register. A general overview of the categories of institutions providing publicly-subsidised adult education and training can be found in the chapter on adult education. The notes below the tables provide methodological explanations necessary for a good interpretation of data.

Data within the table reflects the legal entities. Data exclude foreign and international schools.
The government-dependent private kindergarten reflects all government-dependent and independent private legal entities.
All basic schools provide single structure education at ISCED levels 1 and 2. Out of 457 basic schools, 204 also provide pre-school education (ISCED 0). 26 mainstream basic schools implemented adapted education programme for SEN children.
There are no private independent basic and upper secondary schools.
The number on upper secondary schools reflects legal entities, namely schools and school centres. School centres include several organisational units offering diverse types of programmes. There were 32 school centres in 2024/25.
Some upper secondary schools provide only general education, some only vocational and some both types of education.
