Increase in apprenticeship allowances and support for trainers
As part of a reform of vocational training, the government plans to increase and harmonise apprenticeship allowances. They will be calculated as a percentage of the minimum social wage, with progression depending on the year of training or key milestones (such as passing an intermediate project). In addition, an annual bonus of €750 will be granted to employees responsible for supervising apprentices, in recognition of their commitment.
Introduction of the “Moving Languages” programme
Luxembourg has launched “Moving Languages”, an immersive and intensive method for learning Luxembourgish and French, based on movement and the use of the five senses. This eight-week programme enables beginner adults to quickly reach an A2 oral level. In response to strong demand, it has been integrated into the official training offer and is also aimed at people in integration programmes.
Expansion of training provision
In the 2025/2026 school year, Luxembourg continued expanding its training offer in French and English. Many vocational diplomas (DAP) and technician diplomas (DT) are now available in French, with some also offered in English. This policy aims to make vocational training more accessible to students with diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Craft training programmes
From the 2026/2027 school year, all craft training programmes at DAP level are expected to be available in French, alongside the introduction of new technical programmes in mechatronics.
2025
New site for the École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg
In September 2025, the École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg (EHTL) opened its second site, located in the south of the country. In the first phase, this new facility will welcome first-year classes in the fields of catering, tourism and communication, hospitality and management, as well as hospitality management.
From the 2025/2026 academic year, the following first-year programmes will be offered: the vocational aptitude diploma (DAP) Restaurant Operator, the technician’s diploma (DT) Hospitality and Management, the DT Tourism and Communication, and the secondary school leaving diploma in Hospitality Management. The EHTL’s offer also includes a specific training programme for individuals with international protection status.
In 2026, the range of programmes will be further expanded to include the DAP Waiter/Waitress, the DAP English-speaking Restaurant Operator, the Advanced Technician’s Certificate (BTS) Hospitality Management and the BTS Tourism and Communication.
2024
New vocational training course
A new training programme leading to a vocational aptitude diploma (DAP) in tattooing is launched for the start of the 2024/25 academic year. The training emphasises practical experience, with up to four days a week spent on the job. Students also learn about the health and hygiene requirements set out in the 2018 law regulating the tattooing industry.
Towards a grouping of certain Master craftsman’s diplomas
A draft law on the reform of training leading to a Master craftsman’s diploma was introduced on 9 October 2023. A horizontal and inter-trade restructuring of the training courses leading to the Master craftsman’s diploma has been initiated. This should result in twelve to fifteen certificates organised by field of activity, compared to the 31 diplomas organised by sectors until now.
This approach will respond to structural changes in companies and new expectations from customers, as well as to the varied profiles of candidates interested in the various training courses.
A modernisation is also planned for the examinations leading to the diploma.
