Two kinds of first-cycle programmes exist:
- The professional bachelor’s programme;
- The university bachelor’s programme.
The professional bachelor’s programme
University colleges offer professional bachelor’s programmes, which are professionally oriented, qualifying higher education programmes that combine theoretical studies with a practically oriented approach in the form of compulsory work placement.
The professional bachelor’s degree is awarded after 180-240 ECTS credit-points, corresponding to three to four and a half years of study.
Professional bachelor’s programmes are offered at a level corresponding to that of a university bachelor’s programme, but with a stronger focus on professional practice.
There are approximately 85 professional bachelor’s programmes in the following fields:
- Healthcare;
- Pedagogy;
- Business and economics;
- Media and communication;
- Social sciences;
- Design;
- Information technology;
- Technology.
The university bachelor’s programme
Universities offer university bachelor’s programmes, which are research-based programmes that provide the students with a broad academic foundation as well as specialist knowledge combined with theoretical, applied and analytical skills.
The university bachelor’s degree is awarded after 180 ECTS credit-points corresponding to three years of study.
The university bachelor’s programme qualifies students for occupational functions and for postgraduate studies.
The universities offer university bachelor’s programmes in the scientific disciplines:
- Humanities;
- Natural sciences;
- Social sciences;
- Law;
- Theology;
- Health sciences;
- Technical studies;
- IT.
