7.2.2Short-cycle higher education

Since the creation of the Autonome Hochschule in the German-speaking Community, so-called supplemental education is permitted during or after the bachelor's degree has been received. This includes, according to decree, at least 10 ECTS points and is offered by the AHS. They are not permitted to exceed 5 academic years in any case.

Branches of Study

The following short courses are offered by the AHS in the 2011-2012 academic year:

  • Supplemental course on intensive and emergency care (60 ECTS over 2 academic years)
  • Teaching certificate for teachers of the upper level of secondary school (30 ECTS over 2 academic years)
  • Supplemental training special education (10 ECTS)
  • Supplemental education in Catholic religious education for secondary schools (15 ECTS)
  • Supplemental education in French as a foreign language in primary school (10 ECTS)

Admission Requirements

A bachelor is required for all short courses. A master can also be requested for the secondary school teaching certificate. Education science students at the AHS have the right to attend a supplementary course during their basic studies.
