The German-speaking Community invests considerable funds annually in the local education system. Against this background, the education policymakers are of the opinion that the significant financial resources invested annually in the education system make a consistent safeguarding and further development of quality in the school sector necessary. The aim is to identify and correct undesirable developments and to remedy existing deficiencies.

Against this background, the education policymakers are of the opinion that the significant financial resources invested annually in the education system make a consistent safeguarding and further development of quality in the school sector necessary. The aim is to identify and correct undesirable developments and to remedy existing deficiencies..

The principle of freedom of education implies that, first and foremost, schools and their providers themselves bear the main responsibility for the quality of teaching and education in their institutions. Internal evaluation is therefore essential and has been made mandatory for all schools in the aforementioned legal framework.

External evaluation, on the other hand, is equally important, because society also has a right to know whether the significant financial resources that the public sector invests in education are being used appropriately and whether they are successfully applied in the form of optimal upbringing and education of our youth, or in adult education that meets the needs. This external evaluation therefore concerns both the educational tasks of the school – including adult education provided in secondary schools – and certain administrative aspects.

Thus, both internal and external evaluation are of great importance in the effort to safeguard and improve the quality of school work and the education system.
