Practice-oriented bachelor's degree programmes

As part of the Skilled Workers Initiative, universities of applied sciences have been able to offer practice-integrated bachelor's degree programmes in mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology on a temporary basis until the end of 2025. Baccalaureate and federal Baccalaureate graduates who do not have basic training in a profession related to the field of study can be admitted directly to these programmes without prior one-year work experience. The practice-oriented degree programmes last four years instead of three, with 40 per cent of the study time spent in a company. Based on a Wirkungsanalyse [impact analysis], the Federal Council has concluded that there is a need to continue the practice-oriented bachelor's degree programmes in STEM subjects. It therefore launched a consultation process on 4 September 2024.
