In December 2022, the Ministry approved the guidelines for students' guidance (Linee guida per l'orientamento), which aim at strengthening the connection between lower and upper secondary education, tackle early school leaving and promote access to tertiary education.
According to the Guidelines, each lower and upper secondary school identifies tutors among class teachers to help students review the key parts of each personal E-Portfolio and to help families in their choice of educational paths and/or career prospects. Each tutor is the reference for 30-50 students.
Beside the tutor teacher, each school has one guidance councellor, a teacher of the school acting as a reference figure who facilitates the choice between continuing their studies or entering the world of work, while at the same time facilitating the match between students' skills and the demand for work.
Being the tutor teacher and the guidance counsellor teachers of the schools, their initial training, enrolment and working conditions are those described for school teachers. As for CPD, tutors and guidance counsellors follow additional specific training activities tailored for their function and designed according to indications provided by the Ministry of education.
