Long-cycle professional study programs (level 7 of the national qualification framework) - give the opportunity to obtain a doctor's, pharmacist's or dentist's degree, or a veterinarian's professional qualification. Studies are 5-6 years long. After graduating from these programmes, graduates may enroll in third-cycle study programmes - doctoral studies or residency.

These are programmes in certain study fields - medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and veterinary medicine - leading to a degree in regulated professions.

Currently there are three higher education institutions – University of Latvia, Rīga Stradiņš University, and Latvia’s University of Life Sciences and Technologies – who provide so-called ‘long-cycle’ study programmes. University of Latvia offers long-cycle programmes in Medicine and Dentistry, Rīga Stradiņš University offers programmes in Medicine, Paediatrics, and Dentistry, but Latvia’s University of Life Sciences and Technologies – in Veterinary Medicine.

The qualification obtained after completing any of these study programmes (five or six years long) is equated to Master's degree, according to Latvian legislation.

Admissions requirements are similar as of the typical Bachelor programme.
