The vast majority of pupils attend compulsory education in mainstream schools. There are, however, a number of special schools that provide support tailored to a very small number of pupils whose educational needs are linked to highly complex situations, often accompanied by equally complex health conditions. 

Attendance at these schools is exceptional and occurs only when it is considered that, at a particular stage of the pupil’s educational journey, this provision is the most appropriate option for their needs.
