In February, the Portuguese government launched a programme for qualified young people, with the aim of benefiting recent graduates living in Portugal by providing them with an annual salary premium to reward their qualifications.

According to this measure, recent bachelor’s graduates will earn 697 euros per year, while for recent master’s graduates the salary premium will amount to 1500 euros each year. If the workers have completed an integrated master's degree, the bonus will be 697 euros for the period corresponding to the bachelor's degree and 1500 euros for the period corresponding to the master's degree. The bonus will be paid annually, for the same number of years as the cycle of studies.

This bonus applies to young workers resident in Portugal, up to the age of 35, graduated from national higher education institutions (public or private) from 2023 onwards. Moreover, this also applies to those who obtained an academic degree abroad since that degree is also recognised in Portugal.

Graduates who completed their degree before 2023 can also apply to this salary premium, under the condition that the number of years that have passed since the award of the degree is less than the number of years of the cycle of studies.
