AI for education: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming education, also when it comes to improving teaching and administrative practices. France is launching a variety of projects which are driven by AI.

A call for projects for educational AI (summer 2025):
Funded by France 2030, this project aims to develop sovereign AI to support teachers in preparing lessons and assessing pupils, available from the start of the 2026 school year.

An AI pathway for pupils (back to school in 2025):
From the start of the 2025 school year, secondary school pupils will have a dedicated AI pathway on the PIX platform. Compulsory for pupils prior to the end of lower secondary education and in the second year of upper secondary education, this personalised programme will cover subjects such as how generative AI works and data management, and will also be accessible to all secondary school pupils and teachers.

AI Assistant for Managers (2025):
Following a pilot phase in Lyon “académie”, an AI-based conversational assistant will be deployed to help administrators with their administrative tasks, so that they can concentrate on the human aspects of the national education authority's human resources.

A library of positioning tools for teachers:
To support teachers, a new library of positioning tools enables teachers to assess pupils in French and maths in the first two year of lower secondary education. These tools, which are flexible and require no IT equipment, offer benchmarks similar to those used in national assessments and enable teachers to adjust their teaching methods according to pupils' needs.

Launch of the mission on AI in teaching practices in higher education:
The emergence of generative AI tools accessible to the public is revolutionising teaching and assessment methods. It requires a review of teaching practices and assessment in higher education.

A mission has been launched to:

  • Assess the impact of AI on teaching;
  • Propose a suitable integration framework;
  • Identify training needs;
  • Define methods for assessing and recognising skills;
  • Establish an ethical and regulatory framework to guarantee sovereign AI;
  • Promote research into the uses of AI in higher education, in France and internationally.
