Academic Programmes Quality and Resources Unit

The Academic Programmes Quality and Resources Unit (APQRU) is the administrative arm of the Programme Validation Committee (PVC) of the University of Malta. The Programme Validation Committee is entrusted by the University Senate to ensure that programmes of study offered by the University are of the required academic standard, are supported by the necessary resources and are responsive to national and market needs.

Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology signs three MoUs

January 2025, Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) signed three memoranda of understanding in a bid to improve its services. The first was with Women in Aviation Malta (WiAM), the purpose of which is to inspire and support more young women in Malta to pursue careers in aviation. This initiative addresses gender imbalances and seeks to unlock untapped potential in the aviation sector.

Two New Lifelong Learning Courses

In January 2024, the Directorate for Lifelong Learning and Employability (DLE) within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malta Crafts Foundation for DLE to deliver courses on artisan skills that are under threat of dying out locally. Through this MoU, DLE began providing the first course of on the traditional Maltese art of hand-painted lettering and sign writing (“Tberfil”) in February 2025. 

This chapter provides a thematic and chronological overview of national reforms and policy developments since 2021. The introduction of the chapter describes the overall education strategy and the key objectives across the whole education system. It also looks at how the education reform process is organised and who are the main actors in the decision-making process. The section on ongoing reforms and policy developments groups reforms in the following broad thematic areas that largely correspond to education levels:

Bilateral agreements

This section provides an overview of the existing agreements with third countries that include various levels of education. These agreements are facilitated through collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFET) and the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation (MEYR), and different educational institutions.
