Sustainability and green practices have become increasingly prominent in Serbian education over the past few years. Pupils and students have the opportunity to learn about and discuss these topics in both primary and general secondary education through various elective subjects and extracurricular activities.

In 2022 and 2023, teachers were able to enhance their knowledge and competencies for engaging students with these topics by participating in several CPD programs organised by the Institute for the Improvement of Education in cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature – Adria - Serbia. Education for sustainability and green practices is further supported by projects that aim to connect schools with civil society organisations, thereby equipping schools with more non-formal and informal methods and approaches to learning.

To further support discussions on the importance of these topics in education, the National Eurydice Unit Serbia organised an online conference in June 2024. Participants from schools across Serbia had the chance to learn about the latest Eurydice study on Sustainability in Education, as well as hear about successful Erasmus+ projects coordinated by Serbian schools and organizations, such as "Competences as a Solution to Global Problems" (KA210-SCH), "Let's Hear the Voice of Ecology" (KA220-SCH), and "New Sustainable Rural Tourism Learning Opportunities for Women in Border Areas" (KA210-ADU).
