Belgium (German-Speaking Community): Support for Professional (Re)Orientation with the ProfilPASS

Knowledge extends beyond formal education, and the skills required for certain tasks often surpass what diplomas certify. This is particularly relevant for individuals navigating career transitions, as it is crucial for them to recognise and articulate their skills. In the German-speaking Community, the "ProfilPASS" supports this process.
For the past five years, the Ministry has offered individual competency coaching through the ProfilPASS. It helps participants identify their strengths, aspirations and career visions.
The target group consists of adults who are undergoing a career transition, wish to highlight their skills and set new professional goals. Over five individual coaching sessions, participants are guided by a trainer to assess their past trajectory and acquired competencies. Together, they explore professional opportunities aligned with their values and interests.
Participation in the program is free of charge, but participants must be at least 18 years old, reside or work in the German-speaking Community and be proficient in German or French.
The "ProfilPASS" has already empowered many participants to reorient their careers and find new opportunities, even in later stages of life. It has developed from a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Union to a valuable tool for professional development.
In the German-speaking Community of Belgium, the ProfilPASS coaching is one of three services offered by the project "Shaping Future Paths." This initiative focuses on making informally acquired competencies — those gained outside of formal education or training —visible and applicable for professional growth. "Shaping Future Paths" is aimed at individuals seeking to secure employment, reorient professionally, or strengthen their career paths.
