Malta: Full ICT C3 Suite to be taught for the first time

From the school year 2022/23, ICT C3 (Computer Competency Certification) will be taught for the first time at Year 11, completing the implementation of the ICT C3 suite as a compulsory subject in Malta’s Middle and Secondary schools.
ICT C3 was introduced at Year 7 in 2018/19. Its introduction aimed at moving away from the curriculum at the time, which focused on software literacy, towards digital fundamentals necessary for 21st Century Skills. These include digital ethics, digital safety, coding, robotics, 3d printing and home manufacturing, automation, Internet of Things, digital ethics, digital entrepreneurship, digital currencies and blockchain, amongst other themes. In this way, ICT C3 complements other digital subjects offered, as electives, in secondary schools, such as Computer Studies and VET IT, while limiting overlap between subjects.
ICT C3 leads to a homegrown qualification, certified at Levels 1 to 3 on the Malta Qualifications Framework.
