The Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training has launched a "School of computational thinking" for the academic year 2018-2019. The main objective is to train teachers on computational thinking and technology. In this way, they will incorporate these skills within their classroom's educational resources, as computational thinking is a fundamental skill in the XXI century and can help students to reach new job opportunities, as well as enhance their participation as citizens.

The project is coordinated by the INTEF (National Institute of Educational Technologies and Teacher Training) of the Ministry with the collaboration of the ministries and departments of Education of the Autonomous Communities.

It will include programming, software and hardware open source, and also teaching on drones and robots. In primary education, for instance, the school of computational thinking proposes to teach computer programming as a resource linked to mathematics. Creative technology classes will be launched in secondary education in order to make students explore the electronics through theoretical and practical experiments. The School aims also at introducing high school students to the world of robot programming with content related to mechanics and electronics by using a simulator to robots and devices such as drones, autonomous Formula 1 cars or robots.

Teachers from different Autonomous Communities will be selected and will receive specific trainings in December, January and February 2019. As of February and March, they will then implement this technology training in their respective classrooms. The results of the project will be presented in May.
