In recent years, a range of measures has been taken to finance job creation and initiatives to foster training and occupational integration of ‘at-risk’ groups (the long-term unemployed, low-skilled unemployed, disabled people, minimum income recipients, etc. ).

Disabled students

Aid is mainly provided by two public bodies: the Walloon Agency for the Integration of Disabled People (AWIPH) and the Brussels Fund for the Social and Professional Integration of Disabled People, also known as PHARE (an acronym for ‘Personne Handicapée Autonomie Recherchée’ – ‘Disabled Person Autonomy Sought’).

The increase in the number of immigrant pupils (first- and second-generation) has prompted reflection about their specific needs, in particular in terms of learning French. Educational choices relating to their specific situation have been reframed within the broader context of citizenship and intercultural education.

Certain information and guidance services are intended for students in higher education.

 

 

Non-school childcare facilities

Nursing personnel

The personnel of nurseries, day care nurseries and parental nurseries must include a nurse.

The Centres for Psychological, Medical and Social Services (CPMS) are facilities which receive and listen to young people, and where multidisciplinary teams operate: educational psychologists, assistant educational psychologists, assistant social workers, assistant paramedics and doctors. They are subject to professional confidentiality requirements, and the services they provide are free of charge. Each school is served by a CPMS.
