In order to attract more people to the teaching profession, a shortened study programme for people with a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree started at the “Autonome Hochschule Ostbelgien” (AHS) in September 2022.

Since September 2022, the AHS offers a shortened study programme in pre-primary or primary school teaching for career changers who already hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree –regardless of the field of study. This will be a bridge study programme, called “Brückenstudium PLUS”. The new "Brückenstudium PLUS" comprises full-time study during three semesters (90 ECTS) and compulsory participation in the career entry phase of the AHS. Upon graduation, individuals receive a full Bachelor's diploma in teaching (pre-primary or primary school teacher).

In the first and second semesters, students of the “Brückenstudium PLUS” follow to a large extent the study programme of the second year of the bachelor in primary school teaching. The advanced and additional modules from the 1st and 3rd year of the full bachelor programme in primary school teacher training are to be worked on independently or are to be attended during the third semester. The practical training is carried out at all three levels of primary school.
