Student mobility

Erasmus +

The most important tool for promoting mobility in higher education is the programme Erasmus+. Erasmus+ programme focuses on higher education, cooperation between universities and cooperation of universities with businesses. The programme is designed particularly for students and fresh graduates as well as teachers at higher education institutions.

Pupil and student mobility

Mobilities in the Slovak Republic first take place at the primary and secondary levels based on Slovak Republic’s participation in international programmes and projects. The Ministry of Education, Research, Development, and Youth of the Slovak Republic also provides participation of young students in international subject Olympiads. 

Academic guidance

Guidance in adult education in Slovakia is quite fragmented. 

Offices of Labour, Social Affairs and Family provide guidance in education to their clients registered as job applicants as a part of information and counselling services. This guidance mostly has the form of a so-called individual action plan. An individual action plan is a written document defining the procedures, measures and implementation schedule whose goal is to increase a disadvantaged applicant’s chances of finding a job.

Definition of target groups 

Support measures in adult education focus mostly on 

• the long-term unemployed,
• foreigners,
• socially excluded communities,
• people with special educational needs,
• various vulnerable target groups (senior citizens, people at risk of or subject to gender-based or domestic violence, ...)

The target groups are defined based mainly on the documents approved by the Government of the Slovak Republic such as:  

A higher education institution provides its students with free-of-charge counselling. Free-of-charge counselling is also provided by a consortium of higher education institutions to students of higher education institutions who are members of the consortium.

The Act no.131/2002 on higher education (zákon č. 131/2002 o vysokých školách) defines students with special educational needs as students 

• with sensory, physical, and multiple disabilities,

• with chronic disease,

• sick or with weakened health,

Guidance services in the education sector are focused on support of education and training; provision of psychological, special-pedagogical, diagnostic, educational, guidance and preventive care; as well as provision of information from the area of career guidance for pupils. Guidance services are provided by schools or educational counselling and prevention centres:
