On December 9th, 2025, the Minister of Education and Merit (Ministero dell’istruzione e del merito – MIM) signed new national education guidelines for pre-primary, primary, and lower secondary education.

The new guidelines will come into effect in the 2026‑2027 school year, updating the educational and disciplinary content, with particular attention to:

  • The mastery of the Italian language

  • History and national cultural heritage

  • Optional introduction of Latin in lower secondary school

  • Teaching that emphasises classical texts, poetry, handwriting, and cursive writing

  • Mathematics and science with a more practical and real-world approach

The full text of the new national guidelines is available in the official MIM channels and will be used as a reference for curriculum planning in schools.
