Belgium (German-Speaking Community): New educational offering in secondary education – Preparation for careers in Security and Prevention
The "Security and Prevention" programme was launched for the 2025-2026 school year in Belgium's German-speaking community. This new educational path aims to fill skilled worker gaps in vital security professions such as police, military, and fire services.
In response to the shortage of skilled workers in security professions, a new field of study called "Security and Prevention" was introduced for the first time at a secondary school in the German-speaking community of Belgium during this school year.
Designed for 24 students, the programme prepares graduates for careers in emergency and security services. It offers training in specialised areas, including language skills, technical basics, security laws, and first aid. Physical preparation and practical experience are integral, supported by collaborations with the police, fire department, military, and security companies.
Upon completion of the training, graduates will earn several certifications:
-
The secondary school leaving certificate (Abitur)
-
The qualification certificate "Candidate for Defense, Prevention, and Security Professions"
-
The general qualification certificate "Security Personnel"
-
A specific performance certificate for the security sector
Furthermore, will also be prepared for admission procedures in the armed forces, fire service, police, and security sector.
