Funding in education

Bosnia and Herzegovina

3.Funding in education

Last update: 27 November 2023

Regarding the financing of education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is mostly financed from public funds of entity, cantonal / county, Brcko District budget and municipal budgets, depending on jurisdiction. This practically means that, in terms of location, there are thirteen special education budgets in Bosnia and Herzegovina: two on the entity, one in the Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina and ten cantonal budgets. The BiH Constitution prescribes that compulsory education is free. In addition to publicly and mainly publicly funded educational institutions, there are also few private educational institutions in BiH that cover the costs of their activities from tuition fees.
