8.3Professional development of teachers in early childhood and school education

Last update: 13 January 2026

Since March 2010, the Autonome Hochschule in the German-speaking Community has been responsible for organising and implementing the professional development and training of teaching staff. The basis for this is the annual training programme established by the continuing education commission.

The pedagogical continuing education commission, which consists of representatives from the Centre for Special Education, the medium-sized vocational education and training sector, external evaluation, school inspection and school development counselling, the Autonome Hochschule in the German-speaking Community, as well as school representatives from the various networks, determines the key priorities for professional development in dialogue with stakeholders in the education sector.

The annual training and advisory programme for personnel employed in the education sector includes, among other things:

  • support for new teachers during their induction phase
  • in-school training sessions and cross-school and cross-network training events aimed at enhancing classroom management skills as well as educational, social, pedagogical, subject-specific didactic, and professional competencies

further training for pedagogical advisory services in the primary and secondary sectors
