Employment requirements

Those responsible for the administration and management of schools as well as for the staff are the principals, the school directors.

In secondary schools with at least 500 students, the director is assisted by a deputy director (also called Provisor in schools of the Community education system). Deputy directors are vice-principals.

In regular secondary schools, depending on the size of the school, 3 to 4 part-time positions are also organised in the function of middle managers. In larger technical-vocational schools, workshop managers are additionally employed, who also support the principal in carrying out leadership and coordination tasks. In the special secondary school, the director is assisted by several heads of department and a workshop manager.

In the regular and special primary school system as well as in the regular and special secondary school system, the Decree of 31 August 1998 serves as the basis for the assignments of leadership staff, quality monitoring staff, and staff responsible for support and advisory services.

In the Decree of 27 June 2005 establishing an autonomous higher education institution, the assignments of leadership staff, quality monitoring staff, and staff responsible for support and advisory services are anchored for the higher education system of the German-speaking Community.
